What makes Sockits different?

Sockits rethink how a socket works, not what a socket is.

Instead of wiring awkwardly into a fixed body with limited visibility, Sockits use a genuine two-part design.

The terminal block (cassette) separates from the body, so you can wire with full visibility and proper access, then simply slide the body on afterwards.

It’s faster, safer, and far more practical on site.

What’s the point of Sockits?

When installing sockets, there’s always a location that’s hard to reach, dark or just plain awkward; often cables barely come out of the wall. so you are working right up against its surface. When you can barely fit into the space, challenging is an understatement. In our experience, it’s rare to have an install like the marketing photos – waist-high, with a single cable that extends 30cm out of the wall.

Sockits make the job easier. Even plastering, painting, and replacements are made night and day easier.

Two-part connectors are everywhere for lighting products - why have sockets not evolved too?

What is a two-part connector system?

The terminal block fully separates from the socket body.

You wire and test the cassette in your hand, then slide it into the socket body once the wall is ready. It clicks into place like a cassette and locks automatically.

No more working blind behind faceplates, fighting cables you can't see and terminals you can't reach! 

Are Sockits really faster to install?

Short answer - yes. By removing the socket body during wiring, installers can see exactly what they’re doing and work without some clunky socket in the way.

In the real world, this can make installation up to ten times faster compared to standard sockets.

How do you install a Sockit?

You fit Sockits at first fix:

1. Wire and test the cassette
2. Keep the socket body somewhere safe
3. After plastering, decorating and other trades, slide the body on
4. The cassette clicks into place and locks automatically

The earth bar connects first, and the live and neutral only complete when the cassette is fully inserted.

What size backbox is needed?

Depending on the wiring, it can happily fit into a 25mm box.

However, sometimes a 35mm box might work better. For surface mount – 35mm is needed.

How does the safety slider work?

Sockits use a mechanical, spring-loaded safety slider.

  • The socket only becomes live when the cassette is properly inserted into the body.
  • The slider locks into position automatically
  • A green indicator window shows when it’s safely engaged
  • You’ll also hear a click when it locks

No click, no green indicator = no live socket.

Are there built-in safety shutters?

Is the Pope catholic?

Three-pin safety shutters are built in as standard.

What about touching live parts?

Simple - you can’t without tools and deliberate effort.

To access any live contacts, you would need to:

  • Remove the faceplate with a tool
  • Remove internal safety covers
  • Deliberately expose the internal components

And even if you did all that, there are safety shutters inside the plug sockets.

When the cassette is connected, but the socket isn't attached, just treat is like you would any other socket - keep the power turned off until it's fully connected. 

Are Sockits more sustainable?

We’ll let you be the judge.

Sockits are designed to move away from the traditional take-make-waste model. They’re modular, repairable, upgradeable, and built to evolve as standards change rather than be ripped out and replaced.

At the heart of circular economy design are three principles: recycle, repair, refurbish. Sockits are designed to do all three.

Recycle
Sockits are made from polycarbonate, with up to 20% recycled plastic, and can be easily identified and sorted for recycling at end of life, unlike many traditional socket materials. While 20% may not sound like much, it's a huge step up from the standard 0% recycled Urea sockets!

Repair
USB electronics can be repaired at the end of life or during warranty periods. Most USB sockets on the market are sealed for life — when they fail, the entire unit is thrown away. Sockits are different.

Refurbish
Sockits can be brought back to mint condition. Faceplates can be swapped, USB ports cleaned or upgraded, and components replaced individually without touching the wiring.

All of this means our goal is simple: no Sockit should ever go to landfill – or even recycling - if it can be kept in use instead. While others focus on planting a few trees to offset carbon, we believe the best option is to design products that don’t need replacing in the first place.

Are we perfect? Not yet. (Give us a break - we’re just getting started.) Our products are made overseas, for example. But this is a starting point, not a finish line - and you can see where we’re going.

How long do they last?

Sockits come with a 25-year warranty on the socket body.

USB components have a shorter expected lifespan (5 years) but are fully replaceable.

So when the time comes that USB components are at the end of their life, the USB modules can be replaced, far extending the overall product life.

Can I upgrade a standard Sockit to USB?

Absolutely!

Sockits are modular and upgradeable.

A standard socket can be converted to USB or USB-C without rewiring - it even has space for the USB components. 

Simply send your Sockit body back to our Wellingborough HQ and we'll do the rest. 

Why do you use Polycarbonate?

Urea is more commonly used as a white faceplate than Polycarbonate.

Urea is cheaper, offers an easy “bright white” finish, and won’t scratch.

But, Urea cannot be recycled – another thing for landfill. It’s also a toxic product to manufacture, and brittle – it can be snapped, cracked or chipped.

Basically, it’s used as a material because either “we always have”, or it’s cheap. And, it’s a big headache for an established brand to change material.

Polycarbonate is tougher, less prone to cracking. It can be recycled, and manufactured using standard injection moulding. It’s less toxic, and better for the environment. We can use recycled plastic content in it too, which is impossible for Urea.

Overall, Polycarbonate is by far the best choice. Just remember – anyone promoting Urea is defending a cheap and toxic material. Not that they will tell you that...

Can parts be repaired or replaced?

Yes - that's the whole point!

Sockits are designed to be repairable and modular. Individual components can be removed, repaired, recycled, or replaced all without touching the wiring.

But good things take time - every product we make is designed from scratch. We promise you won't be waiting for long!

Can I get a two-part socket from anyone else?

Nope, sorry!

It's a patented concept, so you won't find another two-part connection socket out there.
